Current Events Term 2, 2017

  Current Events Term 2, 2017

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:

  • Year ⅚ :  I can locate and summarise ideas by skimming or scanning, by identifying key words, topic sentences, and key questions, or by using subheadings

  • Year7/8: I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

Careers Education C.V. Writing

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.

A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.

Here is a link to our online Modelling Book that shows the process we have followed.

Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:

  1. (have good spelling)

  1. (have full stops and punctuation)

  1. (have a nice and easy CV plan)

Here is a link to my Skills based Curriculum Vitae. (Link to C.V. here)

Games with minimal or no equipment.

In PE we have been participating in a variety of games that require little or no equipment.
Below is the Matrix which shows our progression in this unit of learning.

Screen Shot 2017-03-12 at 12.32.06 PM.png

The table below shows my understanding of games with minimal or no equipment.
(Fill this table in, in as much detail as possible. )

Examples of Games that need minimal or no equipment.
What equipment would we usually need to play these games.
Why do we play games with minimal or no equipment?
duck duck goose
sneak up granny
captions coming

cones
Flag
Bibs

you can almost play them enemy where
They don't take that long to set up.

My Strengths.
Some things that I have done well during this unit of learning are being fast because I can out run the person that I an chasing or the person that is chasjng me.

My Next Steps.
Some things I could improve on when playing games with minimal or no equipment are not to break the rules Because it would be unfair for all of the other players

Daniel's Swamp Habitat and Species Description

Daniel T
WALT description habitats in New Zealand and species that live in them.
Success Criteria:
  1. Write an introduction
  2. Write a paragraph describing each creature and the habitat
  3. Write a conclusion
  4. Add detail about the habitat eg
    1. Plants, landscape, temperature, weather, animals living there
  5. Add detail about the creatures eg
    1. Appearance
    2. Size
    3. Species they belong to
    4. Diet
    5. If endangered
  6. Use detail and descriptive words

I have created a New Zealand swamp habitat and included 3 creatures that live there, one endemic, two native.

The Swamp
The swamp is a natural place for frogs and toads. It has old trees and vines. It has many bugs and flies. A swamp is 95% of water and 5% of land, depending on the weather. Its population is 10% of human  and 80% of animals .  Many cities once were swamps many years ago. The swamp is a very nice place for the black gum tree because the ground is very damp.

The L Markhami Frog.
The L Markhami frog was a land frog. The L Markhami frog is                                                                       extinct, no one got a photo or knows the colour of the frog, but we think it was a greenish colour. Any of the four species are known to make are chirps or yelps when harassed.

The Longfin Eel
The Longfin Eel is 2 metres long. The Adult sized eel weighs 40kg.
The Longfin Eel eats worms larvae and when they get bigger they eat fish.
The Longfin Eel has 2 eyes 2 fins and a long body.

The NZ Mosquito
The NZ Mosquito is endemic because it was here before the
humans. Its diet is any living thing and humans. Mosquitoes
weigh 2.5 milligrams. The mosquito has 2 wings, 6 legs and 2 eyes but
thousands of lenses. When the mosquito first hatches it has to to eat small bugs and insects.it lives in a swamp for 2 or 3 weeks to find food then leves.

Conclusion

That was my species and habitat description I hope you enjoyed it and will comment about more interesting things.
